About the Instructor


Master Jason Purcell

Master Jason Purcell is an adjunct professor of Physical Education with Seattle Pacific University. He is also the owner and Master instructor of his martial arts studio located in Seattle, Washington called Martial Sports. Homeschooled himself for five years and having family who still homeschools, Master Purcell started working with homeschoolers for several years before he founded the Homeschool Phys Ed Condition. He is also the founder and creator of Unwavering P.A.C.T. a program designed specifically for homeschooling families to help teens and parents understand and deal with some of the pitfalls and potential dangers of growing up.

About the same time that Master Purcell started teaching for Seattle Pacific University a group of homeschooling families approached him and asked if he could put together a program specifically for a homeschooling group. In under one year the program did so well it had grown to include four homeschooling groups. Master Purcell’s program was so successful that it got recognized by the New York Times. An article was written about his PE program in the Styles section of the New York Times in the May 25th 2006 edition.

Master Purcell started in the martial arts at the young age of 4. He has currently studied 13 various styles of martial arts and has earned 6 different black belts in various styles. The most notable belt he holds is the rank of rank of Master the Korean martial Art style of Tae Kwon Do. He has taught martial arts since 1996 and has both coached and competed at local, regional, and national tournaments. In 2005 he competed in the AAU Northwest Regional tournament knocking out everyone he fought to claim the title of best in the northwest for the middleweight division in Olympic Style Sparing. He has helped coach and competed with Team Velocity which is located in Tukwila, Washington. Team Velocity is one of the best Olympic Style Sparing programs on the west coast.

Each year Master Purcell has more then one thousand students come through his doors of Martial Sports. He has taught and worked with almost all ages, as young as 2 years old and adults as old as 72 years of age. A typical martial arts class size ranges from 5 to 30 students. In the past Master Purcell has put on all day seminars to over 200 students at once. His average classes taught on a weekly basis are the 3-6 year olds, followed by the 7-12 year olds, then the teens, and finally the adult classes. Master Purcell has been teaching homeschoolers for over four years.
